We focus on only one thing—making the best-quality saws that pros like you count on.Learn More
We invented the first portable circular saw with worm drive gearing in 1924. It was a breakthrough innovation then—and still is.
We’ve got 90+ years of experience under our belts. And that legacy drives us to keep creating the tools you can depend on today—and tomorrow.
We design our tools for real jobsite challenges. From the world’s only worm drive saws for concrete to a rugged, heavy duty worm drive table saw, we’re still using worm drive gearing to power cutting-edge innovation.
SKILSAW stands behind our work, just like you do. That's why only the saws with the highest quality and durability make the SKILSAW cut.
Worm drive saws deliver higher torque throughout the power curve compared to direct drive saws—including saws claiming to be “worm drive-style.”
Worm drive gearing features the blade on the left, making it easy to see and track your cuts.
Our Dual-Field™ motor generates less heat and stays cooler longer, so you can take on the toughest cuts with confidence.
Using professional-grade materials like heavy-duty magnesium, every SKILSAW is built to outlast the competition’s direct drive or “worm drive-style” saws.
With your on-the-job challenges and creative work-arounds, you’re the inspiration behind every new product.
Pros who needed the power and torque to rip sheet goods and tackle difficult cuts were mounting their SKILSAW worm drives upside down beneath a table. So we created a compact and portable worm drive table saw with an impressive 3-1/2 in. depth of cut and 25 in. rip capacity—big enough to rip plywood sheets in half. It also features our best-in-class Dual-Field™ Motor and smooth startup for a saw that runs cooler and lasts longer. Welcome to the next chapter in the Worm Drive legacy.
When we brought worm drive power to the portable table saw, it revolutionized what pros could accomplish on the jobsite. Our Heavy Duty Worm Drive Table Saw integrates the rugged power of a full-size saw with a stand designed for ultra-portability. Pros told us that existing table saw stands often got stuck, and the wheels were too small to tackle stairs. So we made our stand with rugged 16” wheels—twice the height of a stair step—for smooth transport. We also noticed some pros using a PVC pipe elbow to direct sawdust into a bucket. We liked that idea so much we added a dust elbow for easy cleanup.
Pros loved our original worm drive saws, but asked us to find a way to make a lighter version. We heard you! The Lightweight Magnesium Worm Drive Saw is a full four pounds lighter than its predecessor. At 11.5 pounds, it’s the lightest worm drive on the market, but with the same SKILSAW power and durability you've counted on for years.
For pros who cut 4x, our original Sawsquatch was a gamechanger. We put our legendary worm drive power and a 15 Amp Dual-Field™ motor in a saw that tears through 4x in one clean cut.
Pros loved our original 10-1/4” Sawsquatch™ for its ability to cut 4x in one pass, and asked us to create a saw that put worm drive power to the task of cutting bigger materials. Challenge accepted. The Magnesium Super Sawsquatch™ is the biggest worm drive saw on Earth, with a 16-5/16” blade and a 6-1/4” cutting capacity, so you can power through 6x in one cut.
Pros often fitted their worm drive saws with a blade to cut metal. This worked, but hot metal shards coming from the cut was a safety risk. We designed OUTLAW to protect users with a special guard and a chip tray that captures hot shards. And, while we were at it, we optimized the motor to cut metal more efficiently.
In order to score and cut concrete, pros would modify a worm drive saw with third-party attachments and accessories, a process that was pricey and time-consuming. With the world’s first fully integrated worm drive saw for concrete, there’s no need for all that. Even better, what used to be a three-man job can now be accomplished by one. MEDUSAW is even OSHA compliant to protect users from silica dust.
The MEDUSAW was a game changer for scoring and cutting concrete. The MEDUSAW Walk Behind builds on that innovation with an integrated and foldable, adjustable-height handle, and OSHA-compliant wet/dry dust management. Now pros can stand up to long days of scoring and cutting.
Scroll through time and see the history behind our legendary worm drive saws—and how we’re continuing to drive cutting-edge innovation.
The legacy of all SKIL power tools is rooted in an idea for cutting sugarcane. Edmond Michele created a motorized machete, using a small 2" circular saw blade mounted at the end of a machete and driven through worm gears by an electric motor.
Edmond Michel and Joseph Sullivan built the first portable electric handsaw when they founded the "Michel Electric Handsaw Company" on July 1, 1924. They built a total of six portable, wooden-handle, electric circular saws that cost about $1,000 each to produce.
The SKILSAW Model E Circular Saw was developed. It was the first die-cast motor housing produced with the purpose of reducing weight and increasing durability.
The SKILSAW Model 77 is introduced. Pros hail it as the best portable electric saw available, and it becomes a benchmark for its quality, power, and durability.
The SKILSAW Model 2127 Pneumatic 12" is awarded the coveted "E" Award for Excellence in War Production by the U.S. Army and the U.S. Navy. The saw, developed for special applications including underwater cuts, is used by forces across the Pacific and Europe.
SKILSAW revolutionizes the industry with its invention of the Trigger Speed Control Switch. This innovation gave users more control over their tools for better results.
SKILSAW leads the industry with its launch of a 60-degree bevel worm drive saw.
SKILSAW introduces the world's lightest worm drive saw. The Lightweight Magnesium Worm Drive Saw is a full 4 pounds lighter than its predecessor.
SKILSAW rebrands and renews its commitment to the pro. This paves the way for new cutting innovations, including the first-ever worm drive table saw, worm drive for concrete, our largest-ever worm dive saw with a 16 5/16" blade—all backed by our industry-leading Stay True® Warranty.
SKILSAW introduces a pair of saws designed specifically for powering through the toughest concrete jobs. Both handheld and walk behind models can be used wet or dry and feature the legendary SKILSAW® worm drive power train.
